Widgets on your phone

Your child's next game and their season, on your Home Screen. Here is how to add a widget, choose which child it follows, and take it away again - on iPhone and on Android.

Widgets are small views of GrassrootsManager that live outside the app. Next game shows who, when and where, with a countdown to kick-off. My season shows goals, assists, games and the latest badge they have opened. They update on their own whenever the app has fresh information; you never have to open the app to refresh them. They need iOS 17 or later.

Add a widget and choose who it follows

  1. 1

The whole thing, in ten seconds

Touch and hold the Home Screen, tap Edit, Add Widget, search for Grassroots Manager, pick a widget, tap Add Widget. That is all of it; the steps below take it one at a time.

Touch and hold your Home Screen

Press and hold on an empty part of the Home Screen until the apps start to jiggle. If you pressed on an app or a widget, a menu appears instead: choose Edit Home Screen.

Touch and hold your Home Screen
  3. 3

    Tap Edit, then Add Widget

In the top-left corner tap Edit, then Add Widget. The widget gallery opens.

    Search for Grassroots Manager

Type Grassroots in the search box at the top and tap Grassroots Manager.

Pick Next game or My season, and a size

Swipe between the two widgets and their sizes. The wider one shows the most; the small square fits beside your apps. Tap Add Widget and it lands on your Home Screen. Drag it wherever you like, then tap Done.

Pick Next game or My season, and a size

Touch and hold the widget, tap Edit Widget

One child? Nothing to do: the widget is theirs. More than one? Touch and hold the widget on your Home Screen and choose Edit Widget.

Tap Player and choose who it follows

Pick the child this widget is for. Add a second widget and pick your other child, so each has their own. Leave it on "Whoever I looked at last" and the widget follows whichever child you opened most recently in the app.

Tap Player and choose who it follows
  8. 8

    One widget each

Two children, two widgets, each following their own player. If a widget says "Open the app to load", open GrassrootsManager once and it fills in.

    On the Lock Screen

Touch and hold your Lock Screen, tap Customise, then Lock Screen. Tap the row of widgets under the clock, find Grassroots Manager and pick the Next game or My season shape you want. Tap Done. To choose the child, tap the widget while still in Customise.

  10. 10

    Move or remove a widget

Touch and hold the widget. Drag it to move it, or choose Remove Widget to take it off. Removing a widget never removes anything from the app.

    When you sign out

Signing out of the app clears every widget straight away, so nothing about your child stays on a phone that is not yours. Sign back in and they fill up again.
